Message Dialer

Inspired by some films (retro & contemporary), I wanted to explore the likes of Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi devices. The nostalgic sound of the rotary dial was so strong that I decided to create an alternate segue for the obsolete rotary phone. In embarking on this archeological-like research, I examined and learned about the specificity of materials, mechanical functions, and circuitry. By incorporating the functionality of SMS on a rotary phone, I was able to rediscover the rotary phone in a unique way that led to an alternate system and interaction.

The project also led me to gather resources on the user experience between the obsolete and current technology, and the customs that we have gained and lost.
